Lt. Gen. (retired) Andrew P. Chambers

Lt. Gen. (retired) Andrew P. Chambers, former Third U.S. Army commanding general (from 1987-1989), passed away at the age of 85 on June 3. Chambers entered the U.S. Army in August 1954 after graduating from Howard University. He served on active duty for over 35 years culminating in his role as the Third U.S. Army commanding general and Forces Command deputy commanding general at Fort McPherson, Georgia. Chambers is survived by his wife, five children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as, three of his siblings. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
