U.S. military service members from throughout Area Support Group-Qatar along with U.S. government and Qatari military officials bade farewell to one, while welcoming that unit’s, newest brigade commander during a traditional change of command ceremony at Camp As Sayliyah on June 24, 2019.

Col. Robert Kuth has led the ASG for the previous 26 months.

“Since assuming command of ASG-Qatar, Col. Kuth has led his team to secure infrastructure, assets and personnel,” said Maj. Gen. David Hill, the deputy commanding general for U.S. Army Central. Hill presided over the ceremony.

Hill’s unit, U.S. Army Central, is ASG-Qatar’s higher headquarters and is based at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina. He complimented Kuth on a long list of mission accomplishments.

“He provided timely and effective support to tenant units and other organizations engaged in U.S. Central Command operations. He enabled strong Army Central to Qatari Armed Forces relationships. He provided enhanced quality of life.”

During his post-command remarks Kuth credited ASG-Qatar’s service members, which includes Department of the Army civilians, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen for the unit’s success.

“I could not ask for a more professional, ready force to fill the ranks of this brigade,” said Kuth.

He thanked myriad U.S. and Qatari military units and leaders, U.S. government officials, contractors, his own staff and the brigade’s command sergeant major.

“I know it sounds like a lot but I know I also asked for a lot,” Kuth said. Kuth introduced and welcomed his successor.

Col. Steve Fabiano, a 1997 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, recently commanded the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of U.S. Army North at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Subsequently he was a professor at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

“I’m extremely impressed with everything I’ve seen and I look forward to serving with and for you for the next couple of years,” Fabiano said.
