MAJOR GENERAL HENRY S. DIXON
Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Central
Major General Henry S. Dixon has more than 35 years of Military Service. He enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard in July 1987 and commissioned as an Infantry officer from the University of Illinois Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 1989.
Major General Dixon was assigned to United States Army Central June 15, 2021 as Director of Operations G3/5/7. His previous assignments include United States Northern Command Deputy Director of Operations, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations for NATO Multinational Division Northeast, Commander of the 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team; Director of Strategic Plans and Policy of the Illinois National Guard; Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment. Major General Dixon has served in several staff officer positions at the Brigade and Battalion level.
Major General Dixon’s deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom from May 2005 to April 2006 as Executive Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from November 2008 to August 2009 as the Chief of Staff of Afghanistan Regional Security Integration Command – West. Major General Dixon has participated in overseas military operations and exercises in Bulgaria, Italy, and Poland.
Major General Dixon holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Illinois, a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, and a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. His professional military education includes the Infantry Officers’ Basic and Advanced Courses, Infantry Mortar Platoon Leader Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, the U.S. Army War College, and the NATO School at Oberammergau Senior Office Policy Course.
Major General Dixon’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (2 Silver Leaf Clusters), National Defense Service Ribbon, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 campaign stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M Device), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon and the NATO Ribbon. His badges include Combat Infantry, Airborne, and Pathfinder Badges.
Major General Dixon is married to the former MaryPat T. Weirich of Long Grove Illinois. They have been married 25 years. MaryPat is a Supervisor with the United States Department of Labor Employment Benefits Security Administration.
