Exercise STEPPE EAGLE 18 is an annual multi-national exercise sponsored by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and executed by the United States Central Command. This premier multi-national exercise helps build trusted relationships and mutual understanding in the region, while allowing more than 250 participants to practice interoperability.

Exercise Steppe Eagle 18 opened with the raising of the flags and the playing of national anthems August 10, 2018, at McCrady Training Center, S.C.
Exercise Steppe Eagle is a premier multi-national exercise focusing on stability operations. This is an annual, multi-national exercise conducted between U.S. Army Central, Kazakhstan's "KAZBAT" Peacekeeping Battalion, and the United Kingdom Armed Forces.
U.S. Army participants are comprised of members from the Arizona National Guard, Kazakhstan's State Partnership Program counterpart, and the South Carolina National Guard. Foreign participants include Tajikistan Peacekeeping Forces, Turkish Land Forces, and observers from Uzbekistan.
Maj. Gen. David C. Hill, Deputy Commander, U.S. Army Central, provided opening remarks to the delegation of participating nations during the opening ceremony.
“We are excited for the opportunity to not only train with each other, but also to give each of you an opportunity to experience American culture and build lasting relationships,” said Maj. Gen. Hill. “What partnerships we build and gain from these exercises will remain strong and improve in years to come."
