Newcomer Information

Congratulations on your assignment to United States Army Central. We are thrilled to welcome you to our team. You are joining an exceptional organization that performs its mission with skill and has great pride in its accomplishments.

We are headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base, outside of Sumter, South Carolina. Shaw AFB is home to the 20th Fighter Wing, the Air Force's largest combat F-16 wing. Also collocated at Shaw AFB are the Ninth Air Force HQ and U.S. Air Forces Central Command HQ, the air component of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

South Carolina is a unique state with a beautiful year-round climate, situated with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and mountains to the west. The city of Sumter, named for Revolutionary War hero General Thomas Sumter, embraces the slogan 'uncommon patriotism' and provides a warm & friendly community for the men, women, and families of the U.S. Armed Forces. Columbia, South Carolina's capital city and home to Fort Jackson, is approximately 45 miles to the west, less than an hour drive from Shaw AFB.
